The life that we live today has become very easy in comparison to the lives of early men. With the progression of human evolution, man has always tried to understand the problems around him and find solutions to many such problems. There was a time when man knew nothing about his own existence or his origin on earth. During those early days, the discovery that meat tastes better when it is cooked (than when it is raw), was also a breakthrough achievement of their time. Gradually, as the human evolution progressed, human minds became more curious and intelligent. They tried to question everything around them. A scientist is someone who systematically gathers and uses research and evidence, to make hypotheses and test them, to gain and share understanding and knowledge. The term “Scientist” was coined first in 1834 by an English polymath, William Whewell.
During the initial days, people used to struggle with very raw scientific equipment to explain the basic structure of a simple cell. Gradually, as time passed, we have developed sophisticated laboratories with modern equipment. Like other fields of science, there have been remarkable achievements in the field of life-science and medicine. Gone are those days when life was very uncertain and mortality rate was very high. Research and development in life science and medicine have decreased the mortality rate to a significant extent. There are many people who dedicated their life to science and research. We come to know about the achievements of a few of them, but many scientists remain as unsung heroes. Our salutations to all sung and unsung heroes who have taken a step ahead towards the establishment of a disease-free society.
